Classification by Structure/Installation Method
Split-system air conditioners: Includes wall-mounted units (suitable for small spaces like bedrooms) and floor-standing units (suitable for large spaces like living rooms). They consist of an indoor unit and an outdoor unit and are the mainstream choice for households.
Unitary (all-in-one) air conditioners: Includes window units and portable air conditioners. The indoor and outdoor components are integrated into a single unit; portable units require no installation and can be moved freely.
Central air conditioning/Duct-type units: Central air conditioning systems are typically "one-to-many" (one outdoor unit powering multiple indoor units), offering a concealed, aesthetically pleasing, and comfortable solution. Duct-type units are "one-to-one" concealed systems that come at a lower cost.
Classification by Function
Cooling-only: Supports cooling only; suitable for regions with centralized heating in winter.
Cooling and heating: Capable of both cooling and heating. Sub-types include heat pump models and high-heating models with electric auxiliary heating, catering to regions with varying degrees of cold weather.
Classification by Compressor Control Method
Fixed-speed air conditioners: The compressor runs at full speed and stops once the set temperature is reached; frequent starting and stopping consumes relatively more electricity.
Inverter air conditioners: Automatically adjust compressor speed for more precise temperature control, quieter operation, and greater energy efficiency; these are currently the mainstream choice in the market.
